William James McBride

McBride was a legend rugby player; he wanted to play rugby at an early age but couldn’t due to his father’s death.

He played 63 tests for Ireland including 11 as a captain; he took care of his father’s farm and later started to play rugby at 17.

He was born in Toomebridge in Northern Ireland; he played in the national team of Ireland and successfully defeated their first opponent England.

He successfully defeated teams in their own country England at Twickenham, Australia in Sydney and South Africa.

He ended his career after his last match against Wales on the 15 March 1975; after retiring he coached the Irish team and was a manager.
After that he lived in Ballyclare and was later given the title in the Rugby world magazine “Heineken Rugby Personally of the Century”.
